Rosh Hashanah: The Jewish New Year

Download this 15 slide ‘Rosh Hashanah: The Jewish New Year’ PowerPoint to use in an RE lesson or assembly.   The PowerPoint explains that Rosh Hashanah is traditionally the anniversary of the creation of Adam and Eve, it is a day of judgement and takes place in September or October each year and it is in the month of Tishri in the Jewish calendar.  Let the children listen to the shofar (a horn) which is sounded at the end of prayers, show them pictures of special food eaten and help your class make their own honey cake by following the recipe.  Explain that after Rosh Hashanah, at the end of the days of penitence, is Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.  This is a special time for Jews.  the PowerPoint ends with a prayer and a reflection.
